All right, it may not be "shocking" but I was struggeling for the right word. The kids were excited to get back to school. London is officially a kindegartener and Violet is transitioning to the "primary" class at Montessori. Big changes. Big kids.
It was so wonderful to see how proud the kids were about their new responsibilities. After school, they were both telling me about their big kid duties. I loved hearing their stories. London was very sweet to Violet. He showed her the ropes in the primary class and helped make her feel at ease.
The most interesting part of the day happened just around noon. There were storms in the area and lightning struck the building next door. Their school is in an office park and the building is attached to theirs -- like a town home. Today, the teachers told me that they were scared to death when the lightning struck and that it shook the entire building. The ladies retained their composure -- most of them, or so I hear -- and walked the kids across the parking lot to another office building while the fire fighters put out the fire that had started on the roof.
Did I mention that there were fire trucks? And fire fighters? And that the kids got to go outside in the rain? Really, what better first day of school could there be?
