We're entering the next stage of the family bike ride. The kids are just too big and to bad to sit in the Burley together. "Mom!! She's touching me!" Now we need to concentrate on learning to ride bikes.
Today, we headed over to Target to buy a lego helicopter for London and a big girl bike for Violet. our options were limited: Barbie or "Jewels and Perls." Nothing that screams: Hey, I'm going to grow into a confident, smart young woman who can ride a bike better than any boy. Nope. Just a future of body image issues and greed. We opted for greed.
Violet struggled with the pedals but she loved the pink flower basket. London pulled out his bike and tried to cruise sans training wheels. He has the desire to learn this year, but he struggles with his gross motor skills. The kid has terrible balance and just falls randomly -- even when he's just standing there.
Kids Therapy has a special class this summer for kids with sensory issues. They work 2 hours a day for four days in June and an Occupational Therapist leads the class. Right now we're telling London that he can practice for the class so that he can be prepared for his big week. He seems to be excited and we're happy with that. Otherwise, he's comfortable riding a tricycle around town.
A friend gave us her tag-along that I still have to attach to my bike -- and I need to get my bike to the repair shop for a tune-up. He may enjoy feeling like he's balancing and moving faster. Just need to get to the bike shop ... when it's open ... and with the bike.
