Beautiful Belize and Ambergris Caye

Looking forward to an upcoming trip to beautiful Belize and Ambergris Caye I was wondering.... who will run the business for a week while we're gone? It had never occurred to me that would not be able to ship product and fulfill order from such a remote location. Well, it did, but now that the time is upon us I am in a serious quandary.

Since the soft launch of ProLine Sports Nutrition we've been slowly seeing more and more traffic to the site. Adding new products means adding new customers and of course, more work. But, family run businesses need a break every now and then too. So, that's what we're going to do. Close shop for a week while basking in the wonderful sun of Central America. You can still order online, but you'll have to wait a week to have it shipped. Orders placed and received after Feb 3, 2007 will ship on Feb 11, 2007 so, mark your calendars.

Ok, now back to Belize. I just got an email from one of my good friends telling me she was thinking about going to Belize around the same time, but was concerned about some security alert she heard about. Maybe in Belize City to some extent, but everyone has crime. You can click here for the U.S. Department of States' official party line.

I'm not sure I can say enough about how beautiful this country is. We almost bought property there last year until we figured out we couldn't afford it. So, every time we get down there we stay at our favorite hotel Victoria House. They have accommodations second to none. You can even rent one of the many houses or villas they have on the property as well. And you will not find better service.

My friend and her husband scuba, so without going half way around the world to get to the Great Barrier Reef I told her she could enjoy the second hottest scuba spot in the world, The Great Blue Hole at Lighthouse Reef. Breathtaking-

My pace is a bit more relaxed when it comes to vacation.... fishing with the native guides.... sucking down a Belikin with Stone (he is one of the bartenders at Victoria House that oversees my libation intake for the week)...nodding off under a big umbrella. Uh, you get the idea.

If I can manage a daily visit into San Pedro I'll blog from our little remote island and maybe even process a few orders, but your shipping will have to wait.

Flying the Friendly Skies

The beginning of something new is waiting around the corner for me. On January 8th I start on with United Airlines. I won't get into under what capacity, just that I'm sure to get a workout on a daily basis. The hours will work well initially with running my own business, but after training, my days will no doubt require some re-tooling.

The greatest thing here is that the flight benefits will continue on from where the American Airlines benefits will leave off. Anyone that has enjoyed these knows what I'm talking about. Most of the world population will never have the opportunity or the means to fly First Class to Asia or Europe for the price of going out to a nice dinner.

I'm spoiled-

Burb Bound From City Life

I believe the expression goes something like this … “we regret to inform you that…” and so on. Well, it’s not the death of a loved one, but of a love affair with Urban living in a bustling Mid-West city. The move, while not imminent, culminates years of anticipation (and not necessarily the good kind). While taking full advantage of city life living can be very difficult I think we did ok. More than enough time at the local pub Ohla’s (corner of Damen & Augusta) counts also. But, maybe I never did enough to warrant the life of big metropolitan living. And, maybe -it is- just the majestic skyline that keeps the warm fuzzy feeling alive. Whatever the reason for wanting to stay, leaving feels so terminal and depressing.

The wife has always hinted at the possible move … it would be better school wise for Sir London, “all my friends are out there”…”my parents are closer”. Even one of my best friends tried to convince us to move out to Geneva, IL (from Chicago, pack a lunch). Looks and feels like a great city for child rearing years, but I could never in 10,000 miles bring my mind around to all of it. If we’re going to move to the burbs of Chicago then we might as well move somewhere warmer. Right?

Well, the stars have aligned and we are destined for a cute little town called Libertyville, which is, situated about 35 miles directly north of the city. Along it runs the Metra line that provides convenient access to the city and can have me back sitting at Ohla’s in just under an hour. From a business perspective (in case anyone cares) the U.S. Postal Service delivery performance is better when shipping from outlying areas in the greater Chicago Land area. -Good for my customers-

So, all said and done, I guess I can still have a love affair with the city, it’ll just have to be from a distance.
