"Alkalize for Bone Health" in Women |
What is pH imbalance? Many of the foods we eat, such as sugar, refined flour, animal protein, coffee, colas, and even sports drinks increase the amount of acidic wastes that the body must continuously buffer internally. As the body strives to seek balance from excess acid overload waste, it will attempt to obtain alkaline substances from wherever it can find them, even if it means depleting bones, organs and tissues of critical structural elements. Many recent findings are beginning to show that persistent acid pH imbalance (also known as metabolic acidosis or acidic stress) can be a leading contributor to bone loss along with many other issues relating to urinary disorders, loss of energy, hypertension and a variety of health challenges.
Some of the most exciting findings on pH imbalance are now occurring in athletic communities. Endurance and elite athletes regularly place themselves under physical and dietary stress that can lead to exercise induced imbalances in pH, most commonly lactic acid buildup which indicates hydrogen ion buildup. Not only does pH imbalance interfere with athletic performance in the way of muscle fatigue, soreness, cramping and energy loss; but it is especially critical for athletes to understand its effect on long term bone health.
