Ah yes, we're in the middle of winter, and training is getting hard. The sessions on the trainer are getting more and more dull. Are you getting as tired as I am staring at your computer and fan while you ride hour after hour? There's no end in sight is there? Never fear! Two of my favorite things have come together to give you some extra motivation to kick it out through the end of January and into February with a renewed sense of pride and a great stretch of biking.
Trainer Road and The Sufferfest have teamed up to kick out an epic 9-day Tour of Sufferlandria. That's right, 9-straight days of biking. Already setup for you, telling you which rides to do each day. It's pretty straight forward. But if you know anything about The Sufferfest, you know it's going to be tough!
Add on top of al these great things, there's prizes! Yes Prizes! And these aren't just small prizes, there's some pretty cool stuff:
- The choice of a 32GB iPod Touch or 16 GB iPad mini (provided by the kind gents at TrainerRoad)
- 1 PowerBar Sufferlandrian PowerPack
- 2 sets of Sufferlandrian National Kit (Jersey + Bibs)
- 1 Sufferlandrian National Jersey
- 3 iphone handle bar holders from Minoura.
- 1 year of free TrainerRoad
- 1 Sufferlandrian Windvest
- 3 flags
- 3 Tour of Sufferlandria posters
- 1 full refund of all 12 videos
- 1 free entry into the TransRockies Challenge Mountain Bike Race in BC, Canada
- 1 x Cyclepassion Calendar 2013
- 1 x Cyclefilm’s “The Italian Job – Gran Fondo Recon” – 6 DVD Set
- 1 x Cyclefilm’s “Roads to Glory – Alpine Training” – Free download
- 1 x Cyclefilm’s “Roads to Glory – Pyrenean Training” – Free download
- 5x Athlete Audio’s App (Mental Training)
The prizes above are if you finish the whole tour and log each one using Trainer Road. If you don't have Trainer Road, you can sign up for a free trial, so you've got nothing to lose!
To be able to use all of the videos properly, make sure you get on to Trainer Road before you start the tour and either a.) enter in your FTP if you know it, or b.) take one of their FTP tests to figure out your FTP so the Sufferfest videos and Trainer Road correspond with each other and how hard you are working.
There's also daily prizes to be had. So if you're like me, and probably can't do ALL of the videos for 9 straight days (for me it doesn't quite fit my training plans), you can still win some pretty cool stuff if you do the right videos on the right day.
Here's the breakdown:
- Saturday, Jan 26th: Hell Hath No Fury (60minutes Race Style)
- Sunday, Jan 27th: The Hunted (60minutes Climbing)
- Monday, Jan 28th: Extra Shot + Fight Club (20min Race / 58min TT and Race)
- Tuesday, Jan 29th: A Very Dark Place (55 min Speed *my favorite*)
- Wednesday, Jan 30th: Angels (62min Climbing)
- Thursday, Jan 31st: The Wretched + The Long Scream (48min Race / 30min TT)
- Friday, Feb 1st: The Downward Spiral (60min Speed)
- Saturday, Feb 2nd: There is No Try + Revolver (60min Speed / 45min Crazy Speed!)
- Sunday, Feb 3rd: Local Hero (85min Race and Speed and TT)
Each video is a bit different and really tests you all over the place in terms of speed, power, stamina and so on. IF you do them right, they truly have you feeling like you have JELLO legs when you are done. So have fun with those days when there are 2 in a row.
